Job description

The Corrosion Technology Department at Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) focuses on research and development within corrosion of materials for transport of oil, gas and CO2. The main focus areas are CO2 and H2S corrosion in oil and gas pipelines and corrosion in systems for CO2 transport for CCS. We have also projects on hydrogen production and geothermal energy. The department has extensive laboratory activity and advanced experimental equipment. The major part of the work is industry funded research, with extensive international activity towards Norwegian and international companies.

Work tasks

The position will primarily be directed towards research on corrosion in CO2 transportation systems, but may also involve projects within corrosion in oil and gas pipelines. The work tasks will be both theoretical and practical, and will include planning, coordination, execution and reporting of laboratory experiments. Project development and network building within industry and academia will also be part of the job.


  • PhD in corrosion, chemistry or materials technology, or Masters degree plus at least 3 years experience
  • Good understanding of corrosion, electrochemistry and thermodynamics
  • Experience with and interest for practical laboratory work
  • Industry experience will be an advantage

Personal qualities

The candidate should be highly motivated and solution oriented and be able to work independently and take initiative and responsibility. It is also important to be able to work in project teams with multiple specialists. Good presentation and communication skills in English (oral and written) is required, and knowledge of Norwegian will be an advantage.
