Welcome to the Fellowship Programme

In the Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer Department (IPT), Knowledge Transfer Group (KT), you will work on legal aspects related to the activities of the group.

Within the Fellowship Programme, we are looking for a Fellow to join the Intellectual Property Management and KT Policies Section of CERN’s Knowledge Transfer Group.

Within the Knowledge Transfer Group, the IP Section assists the Organization by:

  1. preparing and reviewing agreements related to knowledge transfer activities, such as license agreements and other forms of exploitation agreements;
  2. providing legal support related to intellectual property, including as they arise in the context of procurement activities or EU-funded projects;
  3. drafting R&D agreements with other scientific institutes and industry;
  4. assisting CERN personnel in intellectual property matters;
  5. addressing policy matters related to intellectual property and knowledge transfer.

While the majority of the selected Fellow's work is likely to be generated from items 1 - 4, he or she can nonetheless expect to be involved in other aspects of the work during the course of the Fellowship. Other legal files that arise in the course of the Organization's activities may also be assigned to the Fellow.

Qualifications:

For this position within the Programme, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states). 
  • You have graduated with a Master degree in Law, ideally with a specialization (LLM) in intellectual property and have up to 4 years’ relevant experience after obtaining your MSc degree.
  • Relevant professional experience or skills in a number of the domains set out above, acquired in industry or scientific institutes with international exposure through the drafting of licensing and R&D agreements or technology transfer more generally.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is essential. Working knowledge of French would be an asset.

Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

Additional informations:

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion.  In return, CERN will provide you with:

  • An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
  • A stipend of 6,586 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
  • 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
