NGI Houston is engaged in challenging offshore assignments both locally and globally. These include full-field geohazard assessments, soil characterization, foundation design for platforms and subsea structures, mooring anchor designs for floating facilities and pipe-soil interaction. As NGI's activities are increasing, we are seeking qualified geotechnical engineer(s) to join our team and work with improved solutions for the oil and gas industry.

Overview

We are looking for a dynamic engineer / graduate engineer to join our expanding office in Houston.  Candidates must be able to contribute positively to our projects and to interact effectively with our Houston, Oslo and Perth teams and with our clients. Candidates must be reliable and systematic, with the ability to work independently and in a team. Good communication skills are a must.  
 
The primary place of work will be NGI's office in Houston. Candidates should be prepared to travel on project or research assignments as required. Work abroad for shorter or longer periods at NGI's offices in Oslo and Perth may be required. Additionally, work offshore is to be expected. 

Work tasks 

  • Project and Research assignments for oil and gas offshore developments, for example: 
  • Planning of site investigations, advanced laboratory testing and interpretation of soil parameters. 
  • Design of foundation solutions for offshore applications, including platforms, floating facilities, subsea structures and pipelines. 
  • Numerical analysis within offshore geotechnical applications. 
  • Offshore supervision of site investigations and foundation installations. 
  • Project management. 

Qualifications & experience 

  • University degree (BSc / MSc / MEng) in geotechnical or civil engineering, including relevant geotechnical classes. 
  • Calculation software literacy. 
  • While not a requirement, we welcome candidates with an interest in emerging fields (e.g. 'big data', artificial intelligence, deep learning).  
Graduates: 
  • Relevant industrial experience; or course-based practical assignments. 
Engineers: 
  • Around one to two years' industrial or research experience in a similar role, including project management. 
  • Knowledge of cyclic soil behavior, shear testing, stress path dependent strength, and experience in their application in design.
