The autonomous team in Trondheim and at Høvik is now searching for 6 summer students for the summer 2020. We are looking for students that
• are honest,
• are motivated,
• are willing to share,
• wants to influence and
• wants to write project and master thesis on a highly relevant theme for the industry.
In Trondheim you will be working with the ReVolt model, a 1:20 scale model of the ReVolt which is an unmanned and zero-emission ship concept designed for short sea shipping along the coast of Norway. The ReVolt was designed for low energy consumption and the propulsion system is fully electric. 
Today, the scale model of the ReVolt vessel includes sensors for estimating own position and motion in addition to a Camera which is used to transfer video stream from ReVolt to a remote-control station. ReVolt is equipped a 4G router, and a sim card for transmitting data and video stream between ReVolt and the control station. A connection to cloud storage and computing in Microsoft Azure is also established. 
A virtual model, a digital twin, of the ReVolt model has been developed, and it is now possible to test and explore new control algorithms on the digital twin before integrating this control system on the physical model of ReVolt
Several students are working on ReVolt this year:
  • Sensor fusion between camera and Lidar
  • Collision avoidance using virtual objects
  • Mission planning
  • Condition monitoring
The summer students will work on the physical ReVolt model, doing maintenance, adding more sensors, writing controller code etc. The final goal is to have ReVolt operating autonomous between Munkholmen and Trondheim harbour.

Position Qualifications

Managers will select summer students based on their business needs aligned with your education, experience and background. Please indicate your master program specialization and/or main area of study during the application process.
Primarily we are seeking 3rd and 4th year students with relevant Master Program specialization in:
• Marine Technology
• Cybernetics / Robotics
• Data and AI
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Computer Science / Information Science
