Local Unit & Position Description
The Approval organization within Maritime Ship Classification consists of Approval Centre Norway (Høvik and Ålesund), Approval Centre Germany (Hamburg) and Approval Support Centre Poland (Gdynia). Total number of employees is ~370 with the two bigger units in Norway and Germany, and a smaller unit in Poland. The main delivery from the Approval organization is approval, verification and certification services for different maritime related assets, mainly newbuildings, system and components.

We are looking for two approval engineers to join our section for approval of fire safety and life-saving appliances. As an approval engineer in our unit you will become part of a highly qualified team focusing on fire safety and life-saving arrangements and equipment for a wide range of applications and ship types. Our responsibilities span over a broad range of tasks which provides a great deal of diversity as well as deep insight into statutory matters.
We continuously strive at being perceived as a highly competent resource unit by giving valued support on SOLAS and MED related matters to both external customers and our station network.
We can offer interesting and technically challenging working tasks with the possibility to develop both specialist competence as well as a broader more general competence. You will work with skilled and experienced colleagues in an international environment with direct interaction both with customers and other DNV GL offices and stations around the world.
Your main tasks will include:
- Type approval / MED certification of fire safety and life-saving equipment
- Plan approval of fire safety and life-saving arrangements and installations for all types of ships
- Customer interaction via meetings and some testing attendance
- Technical support to customers and our station network
- Some travelling must be expected
- BSc or MSc within relevant disciplines
- Thorough with good analytical skills
- Customer oriented
- Result driven
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Knowledge about statutory and/or certification work is an advantage
- Team player with a positive attitude who strive to obtain results for the team
- Motivated and eager to expand your skills
- Dedication for safe ship systems and innovative solutions, high integrity
- Flexibility with regard to work tasks, ability to adapt to the situation
